The 19th World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS) is about to launch in Sochi, Russia. The Festival Movement relies on a long history started as early as in 1947, which has been traditionally leaded by the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) as its vanguard. The decision to have the 19th festival in this country was taken in the occasion of the centenary of the Great October Socialist Revolution. The festival is dedicated to Ernesto Che Guevara due to the 50th year of his execution, Fidel Castro that we have recently lost, and Mohamed Abdelaziz, leader of the Western Sahara independence movement. Festival’s slogan is as follows: “For peace, solidarity and social justice, we struggle against imperialism. Honouring our past, we build the future!”
